Why this show?

THE NEW AGE is a television series for this moment.

It will be the show for anyone who’s ever felt oppressed or stifled to be unapologetically themselves and is forging their own path toward personal empowerment.

Through its characters and world, it will delve into issues around sexuality, gender, identity, race, and culture, and will be a relatable and honest platform to further the conversations we’re already having around these topics.

. It will particularly be a safe harbor for the queer and POC folks in the audience, especially at a time when people from those communities are still battling their way out of the margins. It’s vital that young queer kids of color get a chance to see stronger, more diverse reflections of themselves in the media so that they can feel seen as a meaningful part of the culture.

THE NEW AGE will show them that their stories have value by giving voice to a main character who is like them without making his cultural or sexual identity the complete headline.

THE NEW AGE will also delve into the vast world of “new age” spirituality from a grounded perspective, which will give viewers an authentic look into all of its strange, ridiculous, and transformative happenings.

It will provide an entertaining and thoughtful space to explore various forms of beliefs and religions, as well as invite viewers into the intriguing worlds of astrology, Tarot, and other alternative forms of healing, a collective space that’s only gaining greater popularity by the day.

Hopefully, the show will offer a place of belonging to those who already live a life of belief outside the norm, where they can experience a cathartic laugh or cry as they see themselves reflected.

Why ME?

This show is so meaningful to me because it essentially exists at the intersection of everything that is me.

It’s queer, it’s mystical,
and it’s Latinx.

At times, it’s also quite literally my story. At 22, I wandered into a metaphysical book shop and within days, was working my first shift. Like Michael, I too was deemed a “witch” and a “healer” on my first day there, which at the time made me laugh.

The similarities roll on from there, including the Catholic upbringing, the fractured family life, the disconnection from my ancestry, and even the car accident. I also wasn’t anywhere near interested in the world of spirituality. But gradually, my curiosity took hold, and I found it to be a gateway into greater personal knowing and profound healing around my family, my identity, and my mental health.

Now twenty years later, I’m a film producer and a writer but I’m also still a working astrologer and spiritual teacher. I co-host a podcast on spirituality, see astrology clients, and teach online Tarot and astrology courses.

Now I won’t lie, there have been times when I wondered,

“Is there really anything at all to this spiritual business?”

To be honest, I don’t know the answer

But I know that I prefer to live in the question than to ever believe that I have all the answers.

I also know that my life keeps pointing me in this direction and that spirituality is essential to my authenticity. I believe that my job in this lifetime is to grow, to learn, to connect, and to inspire others toward a greater expression of their own authenticity. This show is a perfect opportunity to utilize all of my skills and knowledge and to make something that offers heart, soul, and some cultural impact.
