An edgy half-hour dramedy set in the world of modern-day spirituality that uses grounded humor, heart, and a dose of magical realism to explore the painful messiness of growing up when you’re already grown.
The show centers around Michael, a young, gay, Latino who is in desperate need of some growing up. After losing a job, his boyfriend, and a ton of his self-worth, he walks into The New Age, a spirituality-themed bookshop, where he’s immediately told that he’s a witch and a healer.
But wtf does that even mean?
Michael's a typical Scorpio. Intensely passionate with a shady, but funny, tongue who can sting deep when his temper flares. But he's also just a sensitive old soul who hasn't quite realized that part of himself yet. That's because he's too busy making excuses, dodging vulnerability, and holding onto a stubborn attitude. This is all creating conflict in his relationships with his longtime boyfriend, Rickie, and with his family, as well as messing with his confidence in the dreams he's had for his future.
Deep down, Michael wants to evolve and step into being the man he knows he can be. But first, he needs to awaken to a deeper sense of self and realize that there’s more to life than his ego.
Stumbling (or being guided) into The New Age couldn't come at a more perfect time.
Through The New Age shop and its wildly quirky ensemble of characters, Michael will spiral into a modern-day hero’s journey that will take him through a deep dive into Tarot cards, astrology, crystals, urban witches, the afterlife, identity, finding home, forgiving family, questioning faith, and seeking out his purpose while learning a shit ton about himself along the way.
